Conrolled Burning
Controlled burning is an essential tool in
the management of a pine forest. Not only does it reduce competition,
but it also replenishes the soil with much needed organic matter/nutrients.
Generally, after the first thinning of the stand, this is done periodically
until maturity. Frequency depends on the level of competition and the
amount of leaf litter on the ground.
